アートフェアに参加してきました

5月16日に南フランスへ向かい、アートフェア『SM’ART 2018 – Salon Méditerranéen d’ ART Contemporain d’ Aix-en-Provence』に参加してきました。

プロとしての活動実績に重きを置いて選抜された200程の個人ブースとギャラリーブースが展示する、個人参加型のフェア形式サロン展です。少しこじんまりとした感じもありますが、最新作を自由にアピールする場所として作家自身も作品プレゼンに積極的に参加しており好印象を持ちました。作品のスタイルは出展者によって様々で、自分のスタイルを貫いている作家ばかりでなく、販売を意識して購入しやすい作品を沢山持ち込んでいる人もいました。

参加してみて、次々と訪れるフランスの方々の、芸術に対する意識の高さを感じました。作者より絵についての理解が深いのではないかと思うくらいにご自分の考えを力説してくださったり、小さな子供を連れて家族で作品を見て回りながら感想を論じ合ったり。美についての高い見識をお持ちの方が多いのは、小さい頃からこういった教育を積み重ねているからなんだと納得しました。

携帯で、私の作品の写真を撮る人が沢山いて、ちょっと戸惑いましたが、コレクター仲間の友人にメールで教えてもらって見に来ましたとおっしゃる方があり嬉しく、こういった使われ方をするのなら良いかなと思いました。

大袈裟な言い方ですが、現代美術の動向とは、かけ離れた作品を制作している私は、こんな作品で良いのかと不安に思っい、ずっと気後れしていましたが、むしろ違っていて良いのだと気付くことができました。

今回の旅は、デザイナーの森田洋生さんが、旅の案内を引き受けてくださったことで実現しました。

ゴルド(Gordes)村、ポン・デュ・ガール(Pont du Gard)、そこへ向かうためのアヴィニョン(Avignon)での宿泊、セザンヌが描いたセント・ビクトワール山の山頂など、望んでいた場所に行くことができました。また、エクサンプロバンスに通うためにマルセイユに宿泊しましたが、マルセイユの海の美しい夕日に心奪われ、夕方は3日間連続で海辺で過ごしました。来て良かったと心から思える、密度の高い旅でした。

それもこれも、全て森田さんがお付き合いしてくださったお陰です。お忙しい中、本当にありがとうございました。そして、展示会場で通訳をしてくださった桐藤さん、快くお休みをくださった勤務先の皆さまありがとうございました。

今回得たものを、今後の制作で活かすことが出来るよう頑張らなくちゃ！と思っています。

Michiko Akamoto has visited to southern France to attended an art fair “SM’ART 2018 – Salon Méditerranéen d’ ART Contemporain d’ Aix-en-Provence, held on 16th of May.  Only 200 has been chosen as its exhibitor by their past works, individuals to gallery based, both highly professionals.  The fair seemed small on its first look however, since every booth could be finished by any preferable way, it pushed exhibitors to positively arrange into the exhibition, and new artwork’s to be announced.  Not everyone was branding himself, concentrating on sales could be seen as well.  As being part of the fair, there could be seen Français’ high level of attitude to Art.  One talks his ideology as if he knows more than the artist, parents are sharing their thought with their little children while touring through the fair.  It’s easy to understand that their high attitude can be achieved because of their communication from small.  Confusingly many visitors has taken photos of my artwork with their smartphone until I realized that other visitors has came to see my works because of those taken photos that were shared via last visitors.  How neat is that!
